Safety First: Welcome to the Alphonso Lewis Safety Site Professionalism, Leadership and Safety by John Sypek, Vice President-Operations I recently had the privilege of attending the National Truck Driving Championships that were held in Minneapolis. The event was notable for a variety of reasons, but the one memory that I will never forget was the professionalism and leadership that was displayed by all of the participants. These are the two qualities that all 38 Roadway employees that participated in this prestigious event possess. Of course, they put in a lot of extra time and effort outside of their normal work shift to practice their skills, study safety regulations, and compete at driving competitions. This is what professionals and leaders do; they practice their skills to perfection and lead by example. While not everyone chooses to get involved in these competitions; that does not mean they do not possess these two attributes. Every employee must strive to enhance their skills and lead by example when it comes to the prevention of accidents and injuries. Safety is at the heart of our operations and embedded in our daily routines. The KIP Keys and Smith System(r) have laid a great foundation for the prevention and elimination of accidents and injuries. These are the principles of safety that produced the Grand Champion at the NTDC. Our commitment to safety allows us to meet your expectations, and, most importantly, it allows us to return home in the same condition in which we left. |
