VICS BOL

What is the VICS BOL?
The VICS BOL is a standardized BOL that was developed through a consortium of shippers and carriers to meet the express needs of all parties.

The VICS BOL was created to ensure that the shipper, the carrier, and the customer (the consignee) are all getting the information they need for the processing of the goods through the supply chain. Included with the standard Bill of Lading form is a standard Bill of Lading number. The Bill of Lading number has become a critical data element with the advent of the EDI 856 Ship Notice Manifest. The standard Bill of Lading form and number will ensure that all key data elements are present and documented in a uniform manner. This will support the needs of all parties in the supply chain as well as support accurate EDI 214 Carrier Shipment Status transmissions.

When do I use a VICS BOL?
The VICS BOL is requested by most of the major retail establishments across the U.S. and may be required by some. Please contact your consignee to determine if the VICS BOL is required for your freight.
How do I create an electronic VICS BOL?
Roadway offers two products, ExpressWORKS® & my.roadway.com, that will automatically produce an electronic VICS BOL that meets the guidelines of the VICS committee. You only need to enter the information and both programs will automatically format the bill for printing. Both products will also submit the bills electronically to Roadway Express, thus ensuring the data is captured correctly.

The VICS BOL created using either e-commerce product is considered to be in compliance with Walmart's current requirements.
