Professional Roadway Express driver Bob Paige, based in St. Louis, loves being on the road.
Bob's father was Satchel Paige, the legendary pitcher who rose through baseball's Negro Leagues to play with three major league teams and earn a reputation as one of the greatest pitchers of all time.
Their family liked to travel, and looking back, Bob believes these trips helped guide him toward his career on the road. Now Bob, a road driver with 1.2 million safe-driving miles, is clearly proud of being a professional driver.
His father taught Bob "patience and tolerance for the situations you might run into." Satchel pitched many years in the Negro Leagues before joining Cleveland in 1948 as a 42-year-old rookie.
Bob's father was an important "Paige" in the history books. Talk to Bob and you'll hear the pride in his voice. He is proud of his father, of his family, and of driving for Roadway Express.
Roadway Express will soon be exhibiting at Washington, DC:
If you are in Washington, DC, please stop and say hello!
The minor league baseball club in Akron (Cleveland's Double A affiliate) presented its annual Aeros Spirit of Akron award to Roadway Express.
The award, created to recognize businesses for commitment to the Akron community, was presented to Roadway for support of a club program for school-age youngsters called Education Days, as well as support for local charitable causes.
Did you know that there are 63 professional drivers actively delivering shipments for Roadway Express who have logged 3 million miles, the equivalent of circling the earth's equator 120 times, without a preventable accident? And that's not all! There are 7 professional drivers who have logged 4 million miles without a preventable accident.
Find out about these paragons of safety in our Roadway Driver Hall of Fame.

Roadway continues to work with the major relief agencies (FEMA, the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army and the United Way) to transport supplies to the Gulf Coast region.
One recent shipment involved three 48-foot Roadway trucks moving supplies donated by Cleveland star LeBron James and the James Family Foundation. Roadway worked with the Akron Salvation Army to coordinate the move.
The Roadway trucks were stocked with items mainly for children, women, and the elderly and sent to the University of Houston, Port Allen, LA, and Biloxi, MS.
