Roadway is again teaming up with professional baseball and The Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City, MO, to create memorable game-day experiences at ballparks across the country during the 2006 baseball season.
The first pitch was in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, last weekend for a spring training match up.
The once-in-a-lifetime experience includes a step back to the heyday of Negro Leagues Baseball at the Times of Greatness mobile exhibit.
Get ready! This year the program will be bigger with scheduled visits to more cities. Check out future stories as the mobile museum rolls across the U.S. for a second year.
Colonel Lionel Urquhart, former commander of the 3rd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, presented an American flag flown in Iraq to Mike Smid, Roadway President & CEO at the January 31, 2006 Town Hall Meeting.
The certificate presented with the flag reads: "This is to certify that the accompanying flag was flown over the Haditha Dam on the Euphrates River in the Al Anabar province of Iraq on the 11th day of September in the year of our Lord 2005. This flag was flown in recognition of Third Battalion 25th Marines' dedication and sacrifice endured during Operation Iraqi Freedom III. May this flag be a symbol of freedom, to be flown proudly for all to see."
Urquhart works at Roadway corporate offices in Akron, Ohio. While he was serving in Iraq, fellow employees collected items for care packages sent to the approximately 900 members of the regiment. Urquhart said, "I know Mike realizes as well as I do that it's the people who make the organization. The men that I served with in Iraq I'll never forget, and I'll never forget the support that you gave us."
