
AKRON, OH--JUNE 25, 2007--Ron Van Bibber and Vic Wheeler, Roadway professional drivers, placed first in their respective classes at the Utah state truck driving competition. Ron Van Bibber took first place in the tanker class. Vic Wheeler took first in the three-axle class and was also named State Grand Champion. The win qualifies Van Bibber of South Jordan, UT, and Vic Wheeler of Bountiful, UT, for the 70th Annual National Truck Driving Championships held in Minneapolis this August.
Ron Van Bibber is a professional pickup and delivery driver at the Roadway service center in Salt Lake City, Utah. He has worked for Roadway since 1985.
Vic Wheeler is a professional long haul driver at the Roadway service center in Salt Lake City, Utah. He has worked for Roadway since 2006.
To participate in state-level competitions, drivers must be accident-free for the 12 months leading up to the event. The state competitions include challenging skills and maneuvering tests on a driving course, a pre-trip inspection, and a written exam on vehicle operation and federal safety regulations.
Winners at the state level will compete at the National Truck Driving Championships event August 21-25 at the Minneapolis Convention Center. Approximately 400 drivers from around the country will vie for national titles in their respective vehicle classes. The American Trucking Associations sponsors the event.
