Three Roadway Drivers Honored for Logging A Million Miles Each [02.21.2008]

Drivers Ron Delvecchio, Kevin Trapp, and James Furr honored for reaching safety milestone
The Roadway service center in Charlotte, N.C., honored three drivers who have each logged one million consecutive miles safely. Drivers Ron Delvecchio, Kevin Trapp, and James Furr were recognized for their achievements at "The Million-Mile Breakfast" on Feb. 21.

The celebration began when the three drivers arrived at the service center accompanied by a police escort and an "honor guard" of previous million-miler Roadway drivers and retirees. Blue police lights flashed as the crowd cheered on the three new million-miler drivers.

Ron, Kevin, and James were recognized for their outstanding achievement with plaques, jackets, and belt buckles.

Speakers included Rick Cates, director of safety and security for the North Carolina Trucking Association, and Bob Price, area director of operations for the Southeast Division for Roadway. Ron, Kevin, and James also spoke about their commitment to highway safety.

Also attending were Ted Russell, president of Teamsters Local 71 of Charlotte; David Jones, director of field sales for Roadway based in Greenville, S.C.; and Terry Underwood, regional labor manager for Roadway based in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Driving one million miles is the equivalent of circling the earth's equator 40 times. Ron, Kevin, and James join an elite group of Roadway drivers who exemplify the professionalism and skills necessary to be highway safety leaders in our industry.
