
Akron, OH--Six additional Roadway professional drivers placed first in their respective classes at state truck driving competitions this past weekend.
Bernard Zadrozny of Chesire, CT won in the Straight Truck class; Jose Martinez of Tacoma, WA won in the 5-Axle class; Thomas Jones of Akron, OH won in the Flatbed class; Kent Durant of Wichita, KS won in the 5-Axle State Champion (and also earned Highest Written Test Score); Tony Dorries of Ft. Worth, TX won in the 3-Axle class (and won the Best Pre-Trip Award); Regnald Ansbach of Kansas City, KS won in the Tanker class (and won the State Grand Championship).
These wins qualify each of these state champions for the 71th Annual National Truck Driving Championships in Houston, TX on August 18-23, 2008. Approximately 400 drivers from around the country will vie for national titles in their respective vehicle classes. The American Trucking Associations sponsors the event.
No stranger to the National Truck Driving Championships, Regnald Ansbach reached the honor of state championship to participate in 1994, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2004 and 2006. He achieved State Grand Champion status in 2001, 2004 and 2008. Regnald has been employed by Roadway for 20 years.
Kent Durant also returns this year to the National Truck Driving Championships. Kent won the 5-Axle class state championship in 2007 and the 4-Axle class state championship in 2006 and 2005. Kent served on the America's Road Team from January 2007 through December 2008. At the KS state championships this year, Kent won Highest Written Test Score. He has participated in numerous truck driving events since 1993. Kent has been driving for Roadway for over 18 years.
To participate in state-level competitions, drivers must be accident-free for the 12 months leading up to the event. The state competitions include challenging skills and maneuvering tests on a driving course, a pre-trip inspection, and a written exam on vehicle operation and federal safety regulations.
