Roadway Express, Inc. (NASDAQ: ROAD) is a recipient of the 13th annual 2000 CIO-100 Award from CIO magazine. Publisher of CIO magazine, Gary Beach, presented the award to Vice President and CIO, Robert Obee at the awards dinner on August 15, in San Diego, CA. The award program recognizes organizations around the world that use information technology (I/T) to achieve the highest level of operational and strategic excellence.
This year's program focuses on excellence, innovation and improved business performance through the use of customer-oriented practices. According to Abbie Lundberg, CIO Editor-in-Chief, "Customer relationship management is a way for large organizations to gain the depth of understanding of their customers that comes naturally to smaller, local businesses. It helps them build customer satisfaction and loyalty, better focus marketing efforts and significantly increase sales. This year's CIO-100 honorees have demonstrated excellence in one or more of the critical areas of managing the customer relationship."
Chairman and CEO of Roadway, Michael Wickham, said, "Bob Obee and our I/T organization have done an excellent job putting relevant information in the hands of our people, who in turn have done a wonderful job using it to satisfy our customers. We are proud of them all for this recognition."
Roadway is committed to making the customer central to doing business. "Roadway is focused on providing real-time information to our customers, exactly when and where they want it," said Obee. That means more than just state-of-the-art call center technology: it means providing that same type of at-your-fingertips information to all our sales and customer service representatives throughout our 388-terminal network. And it means having web sites and EDI connections that operate around the clock and that access both real-time and historical information."
"We're pleased that the CIO-100's judging panel has recognized Roadway for the success of our approach to customer relationship management. Most importantly, we're delighted in our customers' responses, which have been overwhelmingly positive," concluded Obee.
The recipients of this year's CIO-100 Award were selected through a three-step process. First, companies filled out an online application form. Next, a judging panel of nine industry experts reviewed the companies and nominated those they felt best showed an expertise in customer service/customer relationship management. Finally, a team of ten CIO magazine editors and writers reviewed both the applications and the expert recommendations and voted on the final 100. The judging objectives were to recognize positive business performance through the use of customer-focused practices.
