The sole purpose of the competition is the promotion of safe and efficient operation of Powered Industrial Trucks (also known as forklifts or towmotors).

The first Roadway Express Professional Freight Handlers Competition will consist of a written test, a forklift obstacle course, a personal interview, and forklift pre-trip quality inspection. All entrants must complete a registration form and must be Roadway certified to operate a forklift (with personnel documentation). The competition will be conducted in accordance with OSHA Standard 29 CFR 1910.178, the BWC Division of Safety and Hygiene's "Safety Standard for Low Lift and High Lift Trucks," the powered industrial truck industry and other professional sources.
