
AKRON, Ohio - May 25, 2000 - Roadway Express, Inc.(NASDAQ: ROAD) announced the selection of William D. Delph as the "1999 Outstanding Safety Supervisor of the Year" by the Colorado Motor Carriers Association(CMCA) Safety Management Council. Delph is a sleeper truck - safety supervisor for Roadway at its Grand Junction, CO. facility.
The award was presented to Delph at the CMCA's safety awards banquet on April 14, in Denver by Dean Crewell,maintenance coordinator for Roadway's Denver facility,and the person who nominated Delph for the award.Crewell is also on the Board of Directors for CMCA.
Delph was chosen as the recipient of the award for his work on the highways, visiting State Highway Patrol and weigh station officers, keeping updated on driver activities, and for outstanding performance making the roads safer for all drivers. "This award was a huge honor
for me personally and for Roadway Express," said Delph."I will always be very proud of Roadway and the people I have had the opportunity to work with. It's a wonderful feeling when you are selected by your peers as the best in your field."
Delph has been a professional truck driver for 32 years, 16 of those years driving for Roadway. He joined the carrier in 1976 at the Lansing, MI. terminal as a pickup and delivery city driver. He relocated to Cheyenne, WY. in 1987 continuing his city driving. In 1994, he moved into the position of Sleeper Safety Supervisor and relocated to Grand Junction.
Recognized as one of the industry's "Best-of-the-Best" drivers, Delph was selected as Captain for the America's Road Team sponsored by the America Trucking Associations in 1991. Road Team members travel
throughout the country on behalf of the industry, making presentations to civic organizations, media representatives and driver's education classes on how to safely share the road with commercial vehicles.

Delph is a member of the Masonic Lodge in Cheyenne,WY. and a Shriner organization member. He enjoys wood working and playing his guitar. He and his wife, Dale,reside in Grand Junction, Colorado.
