
AKRON, Ohio -- February 25, 2000 -- Roadway Express, Inc. (NASDAQ: ROAD), was the recipient of the "Eagle Award" from the Colorado Transportation Community (CTC) at its 19th annual Operation Stimulus Transportation Conference on February 4, 2000. Senior Vice President-Corporate Sales for Roadway, Michael Murphy received the award from the 1999 recipient. Murphy was a panel speaker during the conference. The CTC is chiefly headed by the Education Committee of the Transportation Clubs International's (TCI) Denver Transportation Club and is comprised of local Clubs and Chapters of TCI, American Society of Transportation & Logistics, Delta Nu Alpha Transportation Fraternity, National Defense Transportation Association, Transportation Consumer Protection Council, Warehousing & Education Research Council, and the University of Denver Intermodal Transportation Institute.

"In communities throughout North America, Roadway endeavors to take a leadership role in promoting education and awareness of the many issues and opportunities facing the transportation industry today. To be recognized by the CTC for our efforts is quite an honor, as this group has been successful in achieving those same goals for many years."
The Operation Stimulus Committee is a non-profit organization in Colorado that seeks to promote the mutual and educational interests of its members and stimulate public interest in transportation matters. The various organizations and people within the committee contribute time, materials, financial assistance and instructors in connection with numerous college and high school level credit courses in Transportation and Logistics, through various Colorado universities, community colleges and some 38 high schools across the state.

Each year, the Colorado Transportation Community presents the Operation Stimulus conference, which provides a forum for speakers from leading industries, educators and government officials to make presentations and interact with students, at high school and college levels, and people representing all elements of the transportation industry. In turn, CTC sponsors seminars, awards scholarships and arranges for speakers of local and national importance. Syracuse University recognized CTC's achievements with its Salzberg Concept Award in 1992.
