AKRON, Ohio - July 6, 2001 - Roadway Express, Inc. has received the "2000 Ryder Carrier Quality Award" in the National Carrier category from Ryder System, Inc., a global leader in supply chain and transportation management solutions. The award was presented by Tim Podvin, Director of North American Logistics Procurement for Ryder, to Michael Murphy, Senior Vice President of Corporate Sales for Roadway at a ceremony at Ryder Transportation Management corporate offices in Ann Arbor, MI. on June 19, 2001.

Selections are made based on a quantitative scorecard with points given on a variety of metrics, including on-time service, claims performance, customer service, technology, economic value and innovation.
