Roadway Express' Kelly Baumer Honored By Project Management Institute [01.17.2000]

AKRON, Ohio--January 17, 2000--Roadway Express, Inc. (NASDAQ: ROAD) announces that its Director of Project Management, Kelly Baumer, is the recipient of the 1999 Harold Kerzner Award for excellence in the project management profession. Baumer received the award on January 11, from the Northeast Ohio Chapter of The Project Management Institute (PMI) at the Holiday Inn in Hudson, OH.

The award is presented annually to a chapter member for exceptional performance in utilizing the practices and principles of project management as espoused by the PMI. "Kelly's accomplishments at Roadway make her a very deserving choice for this coveted award," stated CIO, Robert Obee of Roadway. "She has received several quality honors during her career and was instrumental in bringing the in-house Baldwin Wallace College MBA program to Roadway."

According to Vice President-Public Relations for PMI, Mark Donnelly, the award is the chapter's highest and most prestigious award. "PMI would like to applaud Kelly's efforts at Roadway in establishing executive support for project management and integrating a common methodology throughout the entire corporation that has led to a dramatic increase in successful project results," Donnelly stated.

The award is given in honor of Dr. Harold Kerzner, who is regarded as one of the world's leading authorities in project management. His efforts in establishing a program of education, taught around the country, have provided thousands of professionals with an awareness of the value of a solid project management skill package, in the successful implementation of a myriad of projects.

Baumer joined Roadway in 1983 as internal auditor and became Director of Project Management and Integration in January, 1997. She holds a MBA in Systems Management from Baldwin Wallace College and, from the University of Akron, a BSBA in Marketing, an AAB in Transportation and Logistics, and an AAS in Computer Technologies. She resides in Akron with her husband, John and their two children, Sarah and Jack.
