Roadway Express, Inc., one of the nation's leading less-than-truckload (LTL) freight carriers, has been recognized as Arizona's Safe Motor Carrier of the Year. Ted Scott, Executive Director of Government Relations for Roadway, accepted two awards from the Arizona Motor Transport Association (AMTA) at the association's annual convention in Sedona, AZ.
Roadway received the prestigious Grand Trophy for the best overall safety performance in 2001-2002. An additional award was for First Place in the category "2001-2002, General Commodities, Intercity-4,000,001-Over Miles," which was given to the carrier for having the best vehicle accident frequency for miles driven in Arizona.
"The safety performance demonstrated by these professional Roadway drivers serves as a role model for our industry," said John Bronneck, Vice President of Operations for Roadway. "Congratulations to such a fine team. This achievement is proof that each employee is engaged in making our highways and workplace as safe as possible."
The safety awards were sponsored by Trailmobile, in cooperation with the American Trucking Association Safety Management Council. They are designed to foster safe operation of trucks through competition between fleets similar in size and character, and to give recognition to those fleets that maintain the highest standards of safe operations.
