Roadway Express Teams Up With Akron Aeros For Education [03.31.2000]

AKRON, Ohio-March 31, 2000-Roadway Express, Inc.(NASDAQ: ROAD), in conjunction with the Akron Aeros, the AA affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, is sponsoring Education Days 2000.

The event is an "out-of-class" experience for more than 20,000 students participating from almost 175 Northeast Ohio schools. Education Days 2000 begins in the classroom with a curriculum written around the sport of baseball, using four school subjects - science, math, social studies and language arts. This curriculum meets initiatives set forth by the Ohio Proficiency Outcomes for grades
kindergarten through ten. Four Akron Aeros baseball games at Canal Park, the home of the Aeros, will be attended by nearly 5,500 students per game.

Education Days 2000 is completed at a game at Canal Park. The object of the game day is to create a unique, out-of-classroom educational experience for the students. Some of the student activities at the game are student radio broadcasts, pre-game student press conferences, banner contests and a unique educational "Crack The Code" activity. Students are also selected to be "Anthem Buddies" and have the opportunity to stand beside an Aeros ballplayer on the field while the National Anthem is being sung.

James Staley, president and chief operating officer for Roadway stated, "Education Days 2000 is a perfect complement to our commitment to this community and educating our children. This event gives Roadway a great opportunity to support two community institutions: the Akron Aeros and our schools."

Education Days 2000 are set for April 12, 18 and 19 and May 3, with all games beginning at 10:35 a.m.
