
AKRON, OH--June 20, 2002--Roadway Express, Inc. has awarded the Galen J. Roush Memorial Merit Scholarship to Claire Beebe of Mustang High School in Mustang, OK. Claire is the daughter of Barbara and Steve Beebe. Steve is a dock supervisor for Roadway Express at the Oklahoma City, OK, facility.
Claire was chosen to receive the scholarship on the basis of her test scores, academic record, leadership and extracurricular accomplishments. The scholarship has a value of $5000 per year for up to four years.
Honored as valedictorian for Mustang High School's class of 2002, Claire graduated with a 4.5 grade point average on a scale of 4.0. She was an esteemed participant in the school's Gifted and Talented Education Program. Claire is an Oklahoma State Regents Academic Scholar, an Oklahoma Academic Scholar, and winner of the Kiwanis Academic Excellence Award and the Mustang Academic Achievement Award.
She also was recognized as a Biodiversity Conservation Award winner by Conservation International at the Central Oklahoma Regional Science and Engineering Fair (CORSEF); as a Third Place Award winner in the CORSEF, Environmental Division; and a First Place Award winner in the Mustang High School Science Fair, Environmental Division. Claire was selected to the National Honor Society and served as a Graduation Escort her junior year.
An accomplished clarinetist, Claire performed in the Central Oklahoma Directors Association (CODA) Honor Band as well as the high school's concert band and marching band. She was named Band Letterman and Clarinet Section Leader and served as Band Secretary her senior year. Claire is an active member of the United Methodist Church of the Good Shepherd.
Future plans for Claire include majoring in mathematics at the University of Oklahoma in the fall.
