
AKRON, OH--June 20, 2002--Roadway Express, Inc. has awarded the GAR Foundation Scholarship to Elizabeth A. Wolfe of Shawnee Mission East High School in Shawnee Mission, KS. The GAR Foundation was established in memory of Roadway founder Galen J. Roush and his wife Ruth, and annually sponsors scholarship awards to dependents of eligible Roadway Express employees. The scholarship has a value of $5,000 per year for four years.
Elizabeth is the daughter of Alexis and Richard Wolfe. Richard is a dock supervisor for Roadway Express at the Kansas City, KS, facility.
Distinguished as a National Merit Commended Scholar, member of the National Honor Society, and National Spanish Honor Society, Elizabeth has attained Honor Roll status for four years and is a two-time recipient of the Scholarship Pin award. She received the President's Award for Educational Excellence and was recently named as an honor graduate.
Elizabeth also wrote and edited for her high school's yearbook and newspaper and anchored for the school district's cable news program. She is a leader in SHARE, the high school's community service organization in which she recently chaired the school Soup Kitchen project. She was active for four years in Basketball (varsity captain), for two years in Field Hockey and Soccer, and served as president of her freshman class.
Future plans for Elizabeth include majoring in marketing and advertising in the fall.
