Roadway Sends Industry's Best Texas Drivers to National Truck Driving Championships [07.10.2002]

AKRON, Ohio - July 10, 2002 - Roadway Express, Inc. announced that two of its professional drivers domiciled in El Paso, Texas, have won the state truck driving competition. These champions will compete with the "Best of the Best" drivers from around the country at the National Truck Driving Championships in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, August 13-17, 2002. The American Trucking Association sponsors the event.

The Texas State Truck Driving Championships were held in College Station. Shawn O'Neal won 1st Place, 3-Axle Champion and was named Grand Champion of the competition. He has been driving for twenty-three years, fifteen and a half of those years as a professional driver for Roadway. He resides with his wife, Debra, in El Paso. They have two children: Erin and Chelse.

Abraham Sanchez won 1st Place, 4-Axle Champion. He has been a professional driver for Roadway for seventeen years. He resides with his wife, Angelica, in El Paso. They have two children: Iris and Jeremiah.

These accomplished pickup and delivery city drivers are members of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 745.

"All of the employees of the El Paso facility are very excited that Roadway will be represented at the national competition by two of their own," stated Eric Scheuneman, Terminal Manager of the El Paso facility. "Our local truck roadeo and success at the regional competitions has given our drivers the skills and confidence to do well at the highest level. We hope this will inspire other drivers to do the same."

Both the state and national competitions include a difficult driving skills and maneuvering test, pre-trip inspections and a written examination covering vehicle operation and federal safety regulations.
