Roadway Drivers Earn Top Honors at National Truck Driving Championships [09.04.2002]

AKRON, Ohio--September 4, 2002--Roadway Express is proud to announce that two of its drivers received the highest honors at the 2002 National Truck Driving Championships in Milwaukee, Wis., held August 13-17. One of the top winners, Richard Seigle, a linehaul shuttle driver domiciled in Chicago Hts., Ill., won National Champion honors in the 3-Axle Class.

In addition, Nicholas "Nick" Caiola, Jr., a driver from Roadway's Kearny, N.J., facility, received the Vehicle Condition Award. This award is given to the competitor who achieved the highest score during the pre-trip inspection. This is the second consecutive year a Roadway driver has won the award.

Roadway drivers also succeeded placing in other events. Gregory Nauertz, a pickup and delivery city driver from the Phoenix, Ariz., facility placed second in the 3-Axle Class.

Steven Norbeck, a driver/dockworker from Roadway's Worcester, Mass., facility, placed third in the 4-Axle Class.

Dan Marsico, Vice President of Roadway's Midwest Division, stated, "The drivers qualifying for participation in the national championships have truly distinguished themselves in the arena of safety excellence. Throughout the week, our drivers exhibited remarkable driving skills. They provided an incredible display of sportsmanship, competitive spirit and Roadway pride. The National Truck Driving Championships, sponsored by the American Trucking Associations, are an opportunity for the "Best of the Best" professional truck drivers to demonstrate their driving skills and unique commitment to safety. The event includes difficult driving skills and maneuvering test, pre-trip inspections, a personal interview and a written examination covering vehicle operation and knowledge of federal safety regulations.
