Two Roadway Drivers Take First Place at the Georgia State Truck Driving Championships [05.23.2000]

Roadway Express proudly announces that Douglas Wheatley and Clay Smith took first place in the Georgia State Truck Driving Championships held May 19-20, 2000 at the Atlanta Airport Marriott in College Park, Georgia. Wheatley won the 3-Axle competition and Smith took home the straight truck award.

Wheatley is employed by the August, GA service center and Smith works at the Lawrenceville, GA service center.


These competitions include difficult skills and maneuvering tests and a written examination covering vehicle operation and federal safety regulations. Competitors are also tested on vehicle inspection procedures.

These drivers merit the highest recognition for their dedication to
safety, professionalism, and driving skill. As state champions,these drivers will compete at the American Trucking Associations
(ATA) National Truck Driving Championships (NTDC), which will be held at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, August 9-12, 2000.
