Roadway Express' Chuck Shirley Drives One Million Miles Accident Free [05.13.2003]

AKRON, Ohio - May 13, 2003 - Chuck Shirley, a professional driver for Roadway Express, Inc. has logged one million miles, the equivalent of circling the earth's equator 40 times, without a preventable accident.

Mr. Shirley is a pickup and delivery driver for the company's Detroit facility and a member of Local 299 of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. He has been with Roadway for 14 years.

"Safety has always been a core value for Roadway. Chuck's strong commitment to be engaged in serving our customers and working safely demonstrates the pride he has in his work and his company," stated President of Roadway Express, Bob Stull. "He joins an elite group of Roadway drivers, who exemplify the professionalism and skills to be the "best of the best" in our industry. We are proud of such an outstanding achievement."

Mr. Shirley was recognized for his achievement at a safety breakfast held at the Roadway facility in Detroit. He also received a plaque and jacket honoring his commitment to safety.

"We are very proud of Chuck's million mile accomplishment. He has been a valuable leader in the areas of safety and growth," said Tom Siefert, Terminal Manager for the Detroit facility. "Chuck's dedication to accident and injury prevention has helped promote a change in safety culture at the facility."

Mr. Shirley, his wife Sharon and son Chris reside in Dearborn Heights, Michigan. He is very active with his family, he coaches youth athletics and enjoys participating in various sports.
