Roadway Express' Tony Gemma Drives Two Million Miles Accident Free [06.02.2003]

AKRON, Ohio — June 2, 2003 — Tony Gemma, a professional driver for Roadway Express, Inc. has logged over two million safe miles, the equivalent of approximately 117,333,000 trips from home plate to first base.

Gemma has been a pickup and delivery city driver for Roadway for 30 years without a preventable accident and is domiciled at the company's West Chester, PA facility. He is a member of Local 312 of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.

"Safety has always been a core value for Roadway. Tony's strong commitment to be engaged in serving our customers and working safely demonstrates the pride he has in his work and his company," stated President of Roadway Express, Bob Stull. "He joins an elite group of Roadway drivers, who exemplify the professionalism and skills to be the "best of the best" in our industry. We are proud of such an outstanding achievement."

Gemma will receive a plaque and his own tractor, with his accomplishment emblazoned on the door, to use while he is driving for Roadway. He has a long career committed to safety. He is a five-time Pennsylvania State Truck Driving Champion, a Roadway District Road Team member since 1991, an American Trucking Associations America's Road Team Captain since 1994 and has been honored three times by the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and the Pennsylvania Senate for contributions to highway safety.

"It is hard for me to imagine a driver that is more actively involved in the safety issues than Tony is," stated West Chester Terminal Manager, Greg Trunzo. "His positive impact has been felt at the local, state and national levels. He has educated, trained and interfaced with various ages ranging from kindergarten through senior citizens. Countless people have been the benefactors of Tony's knowledge and efforts."

Gemma resides in Royersford, PA with his wife, Mary Jo. They have one son, two daughters and a granddaughter. He is a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign War and the Oaks Volunteer Fire Company and is a Vietnam Veteran. His enjoys golfing, gardening and playing the saxophone.
