Roadway Express' Jay Schaffer Named New York Driver Of The Year [06.30.2003]

AKRON, Ohio - June 30, 2003 - Roadway Express, Inc. today announced that Jay Schaffer, a linehaul driver for the freight carrier, has been selected as the "New York State Driver of the Year" at the New York State Motor Truck Association awards banquet.

"Safety has always been a core value for Roadway," stated Executive Vice President of Operations, John Bronneck. "Jay's strong commitment to working safely while serving our customers demonstrates his engagement in the success of our company, his respect for others who share our public highways and the superior professionalism that stands out in our industry. Congratulations to Jay for his fine accomplishment."

Schaffer has been a truck driver for 20 years. He has been employed by Roadway for 15 years and has traveled over 1.75 million safe miles without a preventable accident while serving Roadway customers. He is currently a linehaul driver domiciled at the Buffalo, NY terminal and a member of Local 449 of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.

Schaffer and his wife, Patricia reside in Arcade, New York. They enjoy spending time with their five children and four grandchildren. Schaffer's hobbies include traveling, fishing, reading and attending Pioneer Christian Fellowship Church.
