Roadway Express Selected One Of Best Places To Work In Technology [06.30.2003]

AKRON, Ohio - June 30 2003 - Roadway Express, Inc. announced today that Computerworld selected it as one of the top workplaces for information technology (IT) professionals for the fourth consecutive year. This honor is part of the weekly IT newspaper's 10th annual 100 Best Places to Work survey, which was published in the June 9 issue.

Since 1994, Computerworld's annual "Best Places to Work in IT" feature has ranked the top 100 work environments for technology professionals based on a comprehensive questionnaire regarding company offerings in categories such as benefits, diversity, career development, training and retention. The strategies used by the winning IT professionals to retain and recruit good, qualified employees are paramount to their success. In addition, this year Computerworld surveyed more than 11,500 IT workers for the list, and their responses factored heavily in determining the rankings.

"This year's recognition is unique because it's the first time the evaluation process included surveys of the people whose opinion matters most: our own IT professionals," stated Roadway's CIO and Vice President of New Venture Commerce, Bob Obee. "It was quite a thrill to see our ranking had moved up from 83rd last year to 36th this year among the 100 Best Places to Work in IT. That's a huge credit to the entire organization and the culture of positive engagement we're striving to create."

"The companies we've named as Best Places to Work all make an effort to keep their IT workers focused and challenged, especially in hard economic times," said Maryfran Johnson, editor in chief of Computerworld. "Ample training opportunities; rewarding projects; flexible schedules; a sense of pride in the IT department - the best employers use these key ingredients to build great IT work environments."
