AKRON, Ohio - August 18, 2003 - Roadway Express, Inc. is a recipient of the prestigious CIO-100 award from CIO magazine. The 2003 CIO 100 Award recognizes organizations around the world that excel in positive business performance through resourceful information technology (IT) management and practices.
To provide a vision of ever-changing business trends, the focus of the CIO 100 changes each year. This year, Roadway was selected as a company that demonstrates the resourceful use of technology and related assets in a tough economic climate.
"This year's recognition acknowledges the successful efforts of our fine team of no-nonsense, 'aggressively pragmatic' IT professionals," said CIO and Vice President, New Venture Commerce for Roadway, Bob Obee. "During tough economic times, the Roadway team (all 26,000 employees) repeatedly rises to ever-higher challenges. Our IT organization works hand-in-glove with the rest of our business to innovate and bring more value to customers, while also wringing out costs. Despite tight budgets, we've rolled out a leading-edge onboard computing and communications system, Roadway Digital Dispatch (RDD), 'webified' our uniquely powerful and efficient mainframe database environment, and deployed innovative thin-client solutions throughout our 340-facility, North-American-wide network. I couldn't be prouder of the creative and hard-working individuals who have so well-earned this prestigious recognition."
The recipients of this year's CIO 100 were selected through a comprehensive three-step process. First, companies filled out an online application form. In addition, CIO editorial staff and members of its expert panel nominated companies they deemed best fit the award criteria. A team of CIO editors and writers reviewed the application forms and expert recommendations and voted on the final 100. The judging objectives were to recognize positive business performance through the resourceful use of IT systems, staff and budgets in a challenging economy.
"This year's CIO 100 award recipients are being honored because their companies have demonstrated resourceful use of IT systems, staff and budgets," says Abbie Lundberg, Editor in Chief, CIO magazine. "Maximizing return on investment is a priority when times are tight, and these companies excel in generating greater value from limited resources."
