INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana — September 3, 2003 — Neil Kendall, a professional driver for Roadway Express, Inc., has logged one million miles, the equivalent of circling the earth's equator 40 times, without a preventable accident.
Kendall, 49, has been employed at Roadway for 27 years and a pickup and delivery city driver at the Company's Indianapolis facility for 18 years. He is a member of Local 135 of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.
"With individual employee performance such as exists in Indianapolis, I am confident that this dedication can make our vision to become the "Safest Transportation Company in North America" a reality," stated President of Roadway Express, Bob Stull. "This success is testimony to the pride and commitment our engaged workforce has while serving our customers and working safely. Congratulations to Neil for his outstanding accomplishment."
Founded in 1930, Roadway Express has 1,882 active drivers reach the 1 million mile mark, 287 have driven 2 million accident-free miles, and 54 drivers have extended their records to 3 million miles - a feat that takes at least 30 years. Eight drivers in Roadway's history have attained 4 million miles without a preventable accident: Leon Minter, Luke Cline, Ron Martin, Glen Phillips, Alvin Wilkinson, B.J. McMillan, David Hooker, Edward Rigney, and Arthur Cage.
"We are all very proud of Neil Kendall's exemplary professional success," said Alfonzo Washington, Jr., terminal manager of Roadway's Indianapolis facility. "It is a clear indication of the commitment to improving highway safety and putting to use the extensive driving training that our company provides our drivers."
Kendall and his wife of 32 years, Josie, have 2 sons, Jason and Adam, a daughter-in-law Joan, and granddaughters Lindsay and Riley. He enjoys spending spare time with Lindsay and Riley, reading, and traveling with family and friends.
