Roadway Express Receives Corporate Leadership Award [10.13.2003]

AKRON, Ohio - October 13, 2003 - Roadway Express, Inc. is the recipient of the Corporate Leadership Award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP). Each Fall AFP recognizes the great contributions of philanthropy within the Greater Akron community.

The AFP selected Roadway because of its support of the National Inventors Hall of Fame's Camp Invention program that was launched in 1996. It is a hands-on summer education program for elementary-aged children that focuses on science and creativity. As a supporter of the program, Roadway agreed to help take the Camp to a diverse group of children nationwide through its exclusive in-kind sponsorship of shipping services.

"It's great to be able to help the Camp Invention team," said Mark Olszewski, Terminal Manager for Roadway's Akron facility. "Supporting our local communities is an important goal at Roadway. To realize our commitment to this social responsibility, our Corporate Citizenship Program consists of diverse yet carefully focused priorities that help Roadway serve as a good neighbor and enhance the quality of life in our communities while carrying out our business objectives. I want to thank Mark Rosendale, Relay Manager, and all of our Akron terminal employees for their outstanding commitment to making this program a success. We are proud to support Camp Invention because it provides outreach to children locally and nationally, promoting creativity and the spirit of innovation."

The primary criteria beyond financial support include demonstrating philanthropic leadership in the community and encouraging and motivating philanthropy and volunteerism among employees.

"Roadway Express has grown its commitment to Camp Invention and is now delivering program materials to over 36,000 children in 42 states. The company is a unique national partner and vital local neighbor for the National Inventors Hall of Fame and other area non-profits," stated Hannah Smith, Manager of the Foundation and Government Affairs for the National Inventors Hall of Fame.
