Roadway Express' Michael Ball Reaches Milestone Driving One Million Miles, Accident Free [10.15.2003]

DETROIT, Michigan - October 15, 2003 - Michael Ball, a professional driver for Roadway Express, Inc., has logged one million miles without a preventable accident.

Ball, 53, has been employed by Roadway for 11 years as a pickup and delivery driver domiciled at the Detroit facility. He has never had a preventable accident. He is a member of Local 299 of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.

"Congratulations to Mike for this important milestone. He is a member of a dedicated team that makes Roadway employees the safest in the industry," said Bob Stull, President of Roadway Express. "His success is testimony to the high caliber of our professional drivers, who are devoted to meeting the needs of our customers."

A safety breakfast was held at the Detroit facility to recognize Ball for his achievement. He also received a plaque and jacket honoring his commitment to safety.

"We are very proud of Mike's outstanding safety record," said Tom Siefert, Detroit Terminal Manager. "His accomplishment is a strong example for all drivers that it's important to focus on making the highways safe every day."

Ball was Michigan State Driving Champion in 1999 and active in the state rodeo competitions. He is a member of Roadway District 14 Road Team, an elite group of professional drivers who travel throughout the country making presentations to civic organizations, media representatives, truck stops and driver's education classes on how to safely share the road with commercial vehicles.

Residing in Lincoln Park, MI, Ball and his wife, Patsy, have three children.
