
Akron, Ohio - October 22, 2003 - Rod Schwaller, a professional pickup and delivery driver for Roadway Express, Inc., has logged one million miles without a preventable accident.
Schwaller is a pickup and delivery driver for the company's Cincinnati, Ohio facility and a member of Local 100 of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. He joined Roadway Express in 1990 working on the dock. He has been driving for Roadway for 10 years and has worked approximately 25,000 hours to achieve this safety milestone.
"Safety has always been a top priority at Roadway. Congratulations to Rod for his outstanding accomplishment. His success is testimony to the pride and commitment he has to be one of the best drivers in the industry," said Bob Stull, President of Roadway Express.
"Rod is a valuable member of our team and we are proud of his special accomplishment," stated Cincinnati Terminal Manager, Scott Corwin. "Rod has also been a valuable addition to our pickup and delivery Injury & Accident Prevention Improvement Process council at our facility."
This summer Schwaller was inducted into the Cincinnati terminal's Roadway Inter-city Million Miles (RIMM) group of elite drivers, which now consists of 19 active and 15 retired million-mile drivers.
Schwaller was honored with a dinner and received a plaque and jacket to celebrate his achievement. He resides in Covington, KY with his wife and three children.
