Roadway Express' Michael Hernandez Drives One Million Miles Accident Free [04.06.2004]

OAKLAND, California - April 6, 2004 - Michael Hernandez, a professional driver for Roadway Express, Inc., has logged one million miles, the equivalent of circling the earth's equator 40 times, without a preventable accident.

Hernandez has been with Roadway for 17 years. He is a pickup and delivery driver for the company's Oakland, CA facility and is a member of Local 70 of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. He is very active with the facility's growth council and is an advocate for customers, always ensuring their needs are matched up with the right Roadway capabilities.

"Safety has always been a core value for Roadway. Mike's strong commitment to be engaged in servicing our customers and working safely demonstrates the pride he has in his work and his company," stated President of Roadway Express, Bob Stull. "He joins an elite group of Roadway drivers, who exemplify the professionalism and skills to be the "best of the best" in our industry. We are proud of such an outstanding achievement."

Hernandez will be recognized for his milestone at a safety breakfast to be held at the Roadway facility in Oakland. He also will receive a plaque and a jacket honoring his commitment to safety.

"We are very proud of Mike's million mile accomplishment. He has been a very valuable leader in the areas of safety and growth," said Tom Gidosh, Terminal Manager for the Oakland facility. "Mike's dedication to accident and injury prevention has helped promote a change in the safety culture at the facility."

Hernandez enjoys fishing and spending time with his two children.
