Roadway Express Selected One Of Best Places To Work In Information Technology [06.30.2004]

AKRON, Ohio — June 30, 2004 — Roadway Express, Inc. announced today that IDG's Computerworld, the "Voice of IT Management," has selected it as one of the top workplaces for information technology (IT) professionals for the fifth consecutive year. This honor is part of the weekly IT publication's 11th annual Computerworld Best Places to Work in IT survey, which was published in the June 14 issue and online at Computerworld.com.

"We are particularly pleased to receive this award for the fifth straight year, as input from our own IT employees played a key role in recognizing Roadway for its winning strategy to retain the best IT employees. This honor is a strong testament to our philosophy of all employees being engaged in the success of our company and of each other, while working and thinking like owners of the company," stated Bob Obee, CIO of Roadway Group and Chief Technology Integration Officer of Yellow Roadway Enterprise Services.

The strategies used by the winning IT professionals to retain and recruit good, qualified employees are paramount to their success. Since 1994, Computerworld's annual "Best Places to Work in IT" feature has ranked the top 100 work environments for technology professionals, based on a comprehensive questionnaire regarding company offerings in categories such as benefits, diversity, career development, training and retention. In addition, this year Computerworld surveyed more than 17,000 IT workers for the list, and their responses factored heavily in determining the rankings.

"We were tremendously gratified by the reader response to our 'Best Places to Work' survey this year, which was 30% higher and represents the views of nearly 17,000 technology professionals," said Maryfran Johnson, editor in chief of Computerworld. "The most-desired benefits have remained consistent in recent years. IT pros still want access to leading-edge technologies, training and flexible work schedules. But our Best Places companies often go beyond those measures to provide much deeper levels of job fulfillment."
