
AKRON, Ohio - November 1, 2004 - Roadway Express has been honored by the Department of Defense's National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. Sergeant First Class (SFC) Jai M. Quick, Truck Master 762nd Transport Company, U.S. Army Reserve, presented the Patriotic Employer certificate of appreciation to John Bronneck, executive vice president of Roadway, on behalf of the company on October 13, 2004 at the Roadway headquarters in Akron.
"We are all elated to receive such significant recognition by one of our employees and the Department of Defense. We are extremely proud of Jai and his personal contribution and commitment to our country and to Roadway," stated Bronneck.
Quick, currently on duty as a reservist, is employed at the Roadway Chicago Heights, IL facility. He nominated Roadway for the benefits provided to him, as a reservist, and his family while serving in Iraq for eighteen months. He has been deployed three times in wartime situations. "Roadway was good to me. They are still good to me and I love my job. The experience I gained by working for Roadway was a great help to me as a reservist," said Quick. "I would do it again so everyone could have their freedom."
A Roadway employee since 1996, starting at Chicago Hts., Quick has worked as a switcher and dockworker at Roadway facilities in Skokie, Elk Grove Village and Chicago, IL. He has two children: Diamond Simone, 5 and Nigel Miguel, 12.
Quick joined the active Army in 1988. He served in Iraq for the Gulf War as well as Kosovo and Bosnia on peace and wartime missions. As a combat engineer, his duties involved explosives, land mines, land reconnaissance, infantry tactics, operating heavy equipment and driving trucks. In 1996, Quick went off active duty and enlisted in the Army Reserve. Called up in October 2002, he reported to the 762nd Transport Company for Operation Iraq Freedom. His unit was deployed in January 2003.
Recognition Quick has received during his military career includes United Nations Service Medal; Army Commendation; Army Reserve Components Achievement; Army Achievement; Good Conduct; National Defense; Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Medal; Liberation Saudi Arabia and Kuwait Medal; and Armed Forces Service Medal.
There are currently an estimated 168 reservists employed by Roadway - 98 are on active status with 39 reservists serving in Iraq.
