Smith, 62, is a linehaul driver for the company's Greenville facility and a member of Local 28 of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. In the 36 years he has been with Roadway, he has never had a preventable accident.

"Safety has always been a core value for Roadway. James' strong commitment to be engaged in serving our customers and working safely demonstrates the pride he has in his work and his company," stated Bob Stull, President of Roadway Express. He joins an elite group of Roadway drivers, who exemplify the leadership, professionalism and skills to be the "best of the best" in our industry.

"We are extremely proud of James' accomplishment. His safety record is testimony to his positive attitude toward safety and concern for the motoring public. His outstanding performance solidifies the Greenville team's commitment to safety," stated Conley Edwards, Greenville Relay Manager.

Smith will receive a jacket, plaque and tractor emblazoned with his accomplishment for his use while working for Roadway Express.

Another milestone for Smith is recognition by The South Carolina Trucking Association as "Driver of the Month" for November 2004, at an awards banquet held in Myrtle Beach, SC on November 6. He was chosen based on safety performance, character, involvement in the community and supporting industry initiatives, such as the Truck Driving Championships.
