Gene Grubb is Roadway's 1969 National Champ [06.01.2005]

In keeping with this, our 75th year anniversary, Roadway takes a look back at its first National Truck Driving Championship (NTDC) winner.

August 1969--Gene Grubb, a Pickup & Delivery driver from Columbus, Ohio, is the first Roadway driver to win a National Roadeo title. He won the straight truck class at the event in Denver, Colorado.

A LOOK BACK AT OUR PAST . . .

Grubb, the winner of many state titles, competed in the national roadeos in 1968 and 1967. Fifth place had been his best previous effort.

In the semi-finals, he scored 295 points of a possible 300, and 270 in the finals to win his title.

The National champ, a 17-year employee with an accident-free record, was one of six Roadway state champions to compete in the National Roadeo this year. No others placed.
