Fourteen Additional Roadway Drivers Qualify for National Truck Driving Championships [06.13.2005]

Fourteen Roadway drivers placed first in their respective state driving championships to qualify for the 2005 National Truck Driving Championships (NTDC). They join the ten Roadway drivers who have already qualified for the NTDC to be held in Tampa, FL in August.

Michael Rafeal, a Roadway driver and freight handling professional based in Concord, NH, won the "Best Pre-Trip" and "2005 Driver of the Year" awards, in addition to placing first in the twins class in the New Hampshire competition.

Another Roadway driver, William (Bill) McDonald, a driver and freight handling professional from the Bellows Falls service center, was named grand champion in the Vermont competition. McDonald won first place in the 2004 Vermont Truck Driving Championships.

In addition, Anthony J. Remesch, a driver and freight handling professional from Danville, IL, placed first in the 3-axle class and was named grand champion in the Illinois Truck Driving Championships. Several Roadway drivers competed in the Illinois event, and they won the Team Trophy for their performance.

Each year the Safety & Loss Prevention Management Council of the American Trucking Associations hosts the NTDC, known to many as the "Super Bowl of Safety." The 2005 competition will be the 68th year for the event. It will be held Tuesday, August 16 to Saturday, August 20, 2005, at the Tampa Convention Center, 333 South Franklin Street, Tampa, Florida with the Tampa Marriott Waterside as the primary NTDC hotel.
