Roadway Express Named Among the "Best Companies to Sell For" by Selling Power Magazine [12.19.2005]

AKRON, Ohio - December 19, 2005 - Roadway Express has been recognized for the second year in a row as a top U.S. company to sell for in the service sector by Selling Power magazine in its "50 Best Companies to Sell For" list. This year Roadway was ranked 12 in the Selling Power study, up from 21 in 2004.

"We are proud that Roadway has been recognized again as a great place to work, especially for a sales professional," said Terry Gilbert, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Roadway Express. "This recognition is a tribute to our methods of recruiting and developing knowledgeable sales professionals. We believe training is key to the success of a sales professional. Every member of the sales organization attends 'Roadway Sales University, where they complete a comprehensive sales curriculum. They leverage this training to build strategic partnerships with customers and offer innovative solutions."

At Roadway, every sales professional is part of a local Customer Care Team, which is organized around a specific group of customers to better understand their business and anticipate their needs. This local, team-based structure supports customers from all directions: sales, drivers and customer service personnel work together to provide proactive service. In this environment, drivers and customer service specialists support sales professionals, improving their ability to craft solutions for their customers.

Each year Selling Power ranks the top 25 service companies and the top 25 manufacturing companies. The Selling Power research team reviews responses to an extensive survey questionnaire that was sent to top sales executives, training managers and human resource managers of companies with a sales force of 500 or more salespeople. Independent research is also added to the information database. Assessments are based on compensation, training and career mobility. In the category of compensation the focus was on average starting salaries, incentive pay plans and other benefits. Training reviews included time invested in selling skills and product knowledge programs. Criteria for career mobility included frequency of performance reviews, turnover among the sales team and number of people promoted from the sales ranks during the year.
