Ten Roadway Drivers Qualify for National Truck Driving Championships [06.09.2006]

Roadway Express proudly announces that, to date, ten of our drivers have qualified for the National Truck Driving Championships (NTDC). Roadway expects additional drivers will qualify by the time the competition is held in August. See the American Trucking Associations 2006 State Truck Driving Schedule.

Each year the American Trucking Associations (ATA) Safety & Loss Prevention Management Council sponsors the NTDC, known to many as the "Super Bowl of Safety."

Roadway first place state champions thus far include:

In addition, Jeff Mefford, a professional driver from Cincinnati, OH, was named Outstanding Truck Driver of the Year; professional driver Henry Mahler, Ocala, FL, placed first in the Pre-Trip Inspection; and professional driver Steve Redman from Columbus, OH, received the Sportsmanship Award.

The following Roadway drivers competed in the Florida Truck Driving Championship and earned the Team Trophy: Jeff Slaten, Pete Boughner, David Drawdy, Gary Adams, Peter Orgass, Henry Mahler, and Dale Cook. This trophy goes to the team with the highest average score.

The NTDC will be held this year August 15-19 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, LA.

Competitions include a personal interview, challenging maneuvering tests, vehicle inspection procedures, and a written examination covering vehicle operation and federal safety regulations.

These drivers merit the highest recognition for their dedication to safety, professionalism, and driving skill.
