Three Roadway Drivers Named America's Road Team Captains [02.07.2007]

AKRON, Ohio — February 6, 2007 - Roadway professional drivers Al Adams, Kent Durant, and Rich Scholl have been selected to serve as America's Road Team Captains by the American Trucking Associations (ATA).

For the next two years, Adams, of Berlin Center, Ohio; Durant, of Cheney, Kansas; and Scholl, of Irondale, Ohio; will serve alongside 13 drivers from other transportation providers as members of the America's Road Team sponsored by the ATA. America's Road Team members participate in speaking engagements, media events and drivers' education classes on behalf of the industry. These sixteen professional drivers will address transportation issues and answer questions about the trucking industry and its commitment to highway safety.

"We congratulate Al, Kent, and Rich, each a great role model for our industry, on this tremendous achievement. They have joined an elite group of dedicated drivers who exemplify the commitment to safety, professionalism and courtesy needed to share the American roads safely with motorists," said Terry Gilbert, president of Roadway.

These three, with 56 years driving experience and almost 5 million accident-free miles between them, were selected from a group of 35 finalists. They competed over several days before a panel of judges from the trucking industry. The competition tested their knowledge of trucking industry safety issues, communications skills, and interview abilities. The finalists' community service activities were also considered.

The Road Team Captains will share safe driving tips and offer motorists advice on how to safely share the road with commercial vehicles. They may also have the opportunity to speak on trucking and safety concerns at the state and federal government levels.

This new America's Road Team will serve from January 2007 through December 2008.
