JAMES SHERIFF TRAVELS THREE MILLION MILES ACCIDENT-FREE
CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Illinois - May 29, 1997 - James Sheriff is the latest professional truck driver for Roadway Express, Inc. to travel three million miles without a preventable accident. In honor of this achievement, Sheriff will be granted exclusive use of a personalized tractor from Roadway's fleet of more than 10,000.
Sheriff has been a professional truck driver for more than 32 years. He is a member of the Teamsters, Local 710, in Chicago, Ill., and has received numerous awards for his responsible and, often heroic, actions. Some include:
"James Sheriff has been recognized repeatedly for his responsible driving and his concern for others on the road," stated Mike Wickham, president of Roadway Express. "Safety is a very important issue at Roadway, and Jim's achievement is another example of his professional truck driving skills. We are very proud to have him as part of Roadway's team."
"We track the number of accident-free miles for each driver, and reaching the three million mile mark is a true achievement. A driver can travel 2,999,999 miles without an accident, then crack a mirror on the way back to the terminal, and the count starts over again at zero," he concluded.
Sheriff has worked for Roadway Express for more than 26 years. He lives in Homewood, Ill., with his wife, Mary Anne. They have two daughters, Jeanine and Jolene.
