ROADWAY EARNS SUPPLIER OF THE YEAR AWARD FROM AMP

AKRON, Ohio -- August 1, 1997 -- Roadway Express, Inc. (NASDAQ: ROAD) has earned the 1997 Domestic Supplier of the Year award for its long haul less-than-truckload (LTL) service from AMP Incorporated.

A major portion of AMP's internal customers were solicited for the selection of this year's award recipient. The award recognizes a supplier that has demonstrated sustained on-time delivery performance, in conjunction with the highest level of customer service.

"Roadway Express is dedicated to offering us reliable transportation service in the industry," said Ted Evans, director of transportation for AMP. "With a 97-percent or better on-time success rate for the past 18 months, they are a business partner upon which AMP can firmly rely."

AMP Incorporated, headquartered in Harrisburg, Pa., has 45,000 employees in 50 countries and virtually every region of the world. It serves customers in various industries, including: automotive, aerospace, computer networking, electrical power markets and railroad industries, telecommunications, and consumer goods. AMP had sales of $5.47 billion in 1996.
