ROADWAY TEAMS WITH CUSTOMER TO WIN BEST PRACTICES AWARD

AKRON, Ohio -- April 1, 1998 -- The Georgia Freight Bureau (GFB), a shipper's organization with more than 300 member companies, has selected Roadway Express and Interface Floor in La Grange, Ga., to receive a Best Practices Award for 1998.

The award is given to a carrier and shipper that work together to solve a specific problem or challenge. Interface Floor and Roadway jointly developed programs to streamline invoicing, monitor service performance and manage product returns for Interface's La Grange manufacturing plant, which ships carpet squares via Roadway.

"The Best Practices Award recognizes companies that stand out and above the crowd," said John Youngbeck, executive director of the GFB. "Roadway and Interface Floor developed very innovative solutions to simplify processes in a way that is mutual beneficial."

Winners of Best Practice Awards were selected by a panel of logistics experts from academia. Entries were judged on the gravity of the problem, approach used to address it, resulting improvements and cost savings, and the number of supply chain members positively affected by the solution.

This is the first year the GFB has granted Best Practices Awards. Previously, it selected a Carrier-of-the-Year, and Roadway won that award in the less-than-truckload national carrier category.
