SHIPPERS VOTE ROADWAY BEST LTL CARRIER [4/15/98]
AKRON, Ohio -- April 15, 1998 -- The National Small Shipments Traffic Conference (NASSTRAC), has voted Roadway Express the 1997 LTL Nationwide Carrier of the Year. Roadway was selected the best in its category, from a field of nationwide, multi-regional or regional less-than-truckload (LTL) carriers.
The voting members of NASSTRAC are companies that produce and ship goods in LTLquantities. They rated carriers on six criteria: innovation in quality programsand special services; electronic-data interface (EDI), satellite tracking and other technology; performance; loss and damage ratios; pricing and billing accuracy; and support of the association and its legislative goals.
This is an important award for Roadway because it is one of a kind, said Michael J. Murphy, Roadway senior vice president of corporate sales. It is the only award on which the national shipping community votes, and we are very proud vote to win.

Roadway has won the LTL Carrier of the Year Award for eight consecutive years, and 10 of the 12 years the award has been given. The award is co-sponsored by NASSTRAC and Logistics Management and Distribution Report, a trade magazine forbuyers of logistics services.
