Six Roadway Drivers Reach Finals at the National Truck Driving Championships [8/20/98]

AKRON, Ohio -- August 20, 1998 -- Six professional drivers from Roadway Express were finalists at the American Trucking Association (ATA) National Truck Driving Championships in Long Beach, Cal. which took place from Aug. 11-15.

With 38 drivers competing at the championships, 10 percent of the total number of participants, Roadway had the largest representation of any company at the event. The six Roadway finalists made up one-fourth of all drivers to reach the championship round.

"Such an impressive showing at the National Truck Driving Championships shows the dedication our drivers have to operating their vehicles safely and efficiently," said Dennis McMickens, Roadway's director of Safety. "Being safe day in and day out has a direct impact on the service we can provide for our customers and the personal security of everyone traveling on America's highways. We should be very proud of these drivers' accomplishments and their commitment to safety."

The National Truck Driving Championships were held in conjunction with National Truck Driver Appreciation Week and featured drivers from various trucking companies around the country.
