
ROADWAY EXPRESS SENDS RECORD NUMBER OF DRIVERS TO NATIONAL TRUCK DRIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS
AKRON, Ohio -- August 5, 1999 -- Roadway Express Inc. (NASDAQ: ROAD) proudly announced that 39 of its drivers will be sent to compete against the industry's best professional drivers at the 62nd National Truck Driving Championships August 18-21, at the Tampa Bay Convention Center inTampa Bay, Fla. The finals event is sponsored by the American Trucking Associations.
These state champions merit the highest recognition for their dedication to safety, professionalism, and driving skill. Their advancement to the finals earns them the 'best of the best' designation across the nation. Both the state and national competitions include difficult driving skills and maneuvering tests, pre-trip inspections and a written examination covering vehicle operation and federal safety regulations.
