CHAR-BROIL RECOGNIZES ROADWAY EXPRESS AS CARRIER OF THE YEAR
AKRON, Ohio -- October 29, 1999 -- Roadway Express, Inc. (NASDAQ: ROAD) has been selected as the "Less-Than-Truckload Carrier of the Year" for 1999 by Char-Broil. The award was presented at Char-Broil's Year 2000 Carrier Conference in Columbus, GA. on September 29 by David Atkinson, Char-Broil's logistics operations manager, to Roadway's Jerry Ball, district manager and David Cheatwood, terminal manager at Roadway's Columbus facility.
The Char-Broil award recognizes Roadway as the number one carrier in overall performance, including customer service, value-added services, communication, transit times, billing accuracy and technology. "We feel very honored to receive this special award from a valued customer like Char-Broil," stated Ball. "It reinforces the success of commitment of Roadway employees to focus on customer needs in the ever-changing marketplace."
As the leader in the North American market for full-size gas grills, Char-Broil is presented with challenges that, in turn, provide opportunities for Roadway to develop enhanced service processes. According to Sales Representative for Roadway Caroline Evans, the proactive working relationship the motor carrier has with Char-Broil is key to achieving this award. "There is a steady flow of open communications between the service teams of the two companies," said Evans. "This exchange of ideas and solutions builds sharp awareness and guarantees favorable results."
The interaction is mutual. "The support that Char-Broil receives from Caroline Evans has been instrumental in our continuous improvement process," stated Atkinson. "Our supply chain success depends on carriers such as Roadway and their willingness to build mutually beneficial alliances with their supply chain partners. We look forward to our continued success with these partners as we enter the new millennium."
