New Hampshire P & D Driver Thomas "Major" Hartt, Sr.

He's Got Hartt!

P & D Driver Thomas "Major" Hartt, Sr. is named "Driver of the Year" for 1998, representing the state of New Hampshire. This is the second consecutive year for a Roadway Express driver to be named.

Driving for over 21 years, Hartt has been recognized for his outstanding safety successes. While driving for Roadway the past 13 years, he has received several annual safety awards. He also received safety awards and Certificates of Safe Driving for the eight years he was employed at Montgomery Ward.

Friends and co-workers also recognize his drive to succeed. They say, "He is absolutely amazing to us and we take great pride in his accomplishments because we know how much work and dedication he has put into his work...He does anything he can to help promote a positive image of today's trucker."

Hartt's efforts reach far beyond his personal safety on the highway. He says he enjoys helping others learn the rules of the road. His involvement in several organizations like the No-Zone Drivers Education Program allows him to reach the motoring public. He also takes it upon himself to help other drivers. Hartt sets up practice courses and tests for drivers who are interested in competing.

Supporting local communities is another commitment he has made. As chairman of the New Hampshire Champions' Council for three years, Hartt was able to help needy children in his home state. The council was the driving force behind the success of the annual Truckers' Drive for Kids. Every driver brings toys and/or money that are donated to the Salvation Army.

Hartt's love of driving trucks is in his family's blood. His father and brothers are drivers. Father, Otis Hartt, taught Thomas to drive at the age of 19. Hartt says everything that he knows about driving trucks, he owes to his father.

Hartt lives in Merrimack, NH with his family. He enjoys spending time with his wife, Marci and three sons, Wayne (17), Tyler (14) and TJ (15). He also enjoys woodworking projects, camping and golfing.
