What is EDI?
EDI is the computer-to-computer exchange of business data (or messages) in a structured format, without human intervention. Two keys are:
  1. EDI enables inter-company business automation.
  2. EDI uses standard data formats. The most widely used standards are maintained by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI X12) and the United Nations (EDI for Administration, Commerce and Trade - EDIFACT).
How do I set up EDI with Roadway?
First, discuss your needs with your sales representative. If EDI is the right information solution for you, you will complete a Trading Partner Profile. You may fill out the profile online at our WEB site. The form will be e-mailed to the appropriate Roadway contact to get you started.
Which transaction sets does Roadway support?
The 6 major transaction sets are Invoicing (210), Bill of Lading (211), Shipment Status (214), Shipment Pickup Notification (216), Remittance Advice (820), and Motor Carrier Delivery Trailer Manifest (212). If interested in any other transaction sets, please contact us by e-mail.
Which versions does Roadway Support?
Roadway recommends staying on current versions in order to benefit from enhancements to the transaction sets. Currently Roadway supports versions: 3050, 3070, 4010, 4020 and 4030.
Does Roadway support EDI over the Internet?
Roadway provides for direct connections via AS1 (SMTP), AS2 (HTTP), or FTP, which eliminates the use of a VAN. You will be able to indicate your choice when you fill out the Trading Partner Profile. For more specific information see our technical tips.
